Houston Fishing Show in year No. 38

If you like bigger and better, you’re going to love the new tackle and expanded booth space at the 38th annual Houston Fishing Show, set for March 6-10 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Temple Fork Outfitters will be exhibiting and showcasing several high-quality lines of fly and conventional rods and new for 2013 gear.

This year’s show will be larger by three dozen exhibits– among hundred.51556v2v1

Whether it’s inshore lures or offshore, freshwater or saltwater, if it’ll work in Texas, it’ll be at the show.

The Fishing Show has boats, too, including the latest in shallow-draft hulls. Watch for boats and boat lines rarely seen outside Florida. The latest and finest center-consoles will be there, as well.

This year’s show features guides and outfitters from Port Isabel to the Chandeleur Islands. Take advantage of their presence to compare packages and rates, then throw down a deposit on a prime weekend. Many outfitters offer discounts to clients who book their trips at the show.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department returns with staff who would like nothing more than for us to know more about fishing rules and regulations. If you have children, ask about special youth activities and the state’s nationally acclaimed restocking and hatchery programs, which poured tens of thousands of rainbow trout into small ponds around Houston this winter.

This year’s seminar schedule is packed start to finish with some of the best in the industry, each willing to tell all for the betterment of the sport. Specific times, topics and presenters are available daily at the door. Check the roster as you enter the show, and time your stay accordingly, or go to the event Web site (houstonfishingshow.com) to schedule your trip around a favorite outfitter or guide.

Show hours are noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; 10a to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $9 adults, $2 children 6-12. For more information, call 281-350-2741 or go to houstonfishingshow.com.
